Be Strong, Cub Nation, Part Deux

That's what I would have written this morning had Chicago not snapped its four-game losing streak in the boldest of manners yesterday afternoon, beating the Reds 12-5. (I just got back from a small vacation, which is why I hadn't written anything the past few days, for the four or five of you that actually read this blog) Up until that point, the pitching had been woeful--Rich Hill and Carlos Zambrano most noticeably--and we were headed for the 614th version of a Cubs team with tremendous slugging but dreadful pitching all over the roster.

Now? We're somehow only a half game behind the Brewers--note again, the weakness of this year's NL Central--and the Cardinals are making noise once more. Everyone likes the Cardinals to win it now, and who can blame them? That's what consistent play does. And well, well, well, look at who we host the next four days.

So yeah, it's another crucial weekend series. The last time we had one of these, Tom Glavine won his 300th game and the Cubs effectively slipped out of a playoff spot. Hopefully the worst that happens this weekend is Rick Ankiel pulling a hammy (dodges lighting bolt) while Pujols hits 2 for 16. Go Cubs. Yay.
